explain 2 ways newspapers are funded.

newspapers are funded in 2 ways. one of them being ads. and the other is sales of the newspaper.
newspapers are funded in a variety of ways. two of the most obvious are income from the newspapers advertising sold space to advertisers and the cost of the newspaper its self when we buy the newspaper. newspapers sell space in their newspaper to advertisers who then target audiences through the range of products and services advertised within the pages of the newspapers. the cost of the newspapers also bring revenue.

GUARDIAN VALUES AND BELIEFS

Political alignment of the guardian is the labour party

their values are social democratic liberal views  which means they 'care about humans'

the guardian also doesn't like sensationalism- meaning they don't like click baiting.

they believe in holding the powerful to account. e.g Theresa may, Donald Trump

they value multiculturalism, they are not racist, etc. they disagree with BREXIT.

"the representations features in the observer reflect its values and beliefs". How far do you agree with this statement.

in your answer you must;

    • Analyse the representations featured  in the extract with references to the observers values and beliefs.
    • make judgements and draw conclusions about how far you agree with the statement
the observers front cover on the left of the booklet shows a clear example of the observer newspaper "caring about humans". this is shown on the bottom half of the newspaper with the large headline,"Suicidal children face long delays for care". This proves an example of the observer's front cover showing its views and beliefs. Further more, this one example of the Observer "caring for humans" it also opens the window to show another example of their views and that is,criticising the Conservative government (that they disagree with their views) that they are cutting the budget for 'mental health crises'

Explain how and why producers of radio programmes target different audiences. refer to the Radio 1 live lounge to to support your answer.

BBC Radio 1 is BBC's flagship radio stations, specialising in modern popular music and current chart hits. BBC radio 1 has a specific target audience age ranging from 15 to 29 year olds. BBC  radio 1 has lost lots of listeners over the past few years due to online music, to combat this they have brought out features such as  live lounge to rival online music, BBC Live lounge is section where they get famous artists for live acoustic live sessions which are also available for download.

producers of radio programmes target different audiences. one way the achieve this is by making live acoustic sessions available to stream via multiple websites such as youtube, BBC radio app. by making these sessions available on these websites,(mainly youtube) this allows for - the radio producers to reach their target audience because this is where they will spend most of their time on the internet.  along with the app, there is the feature to download the sessions so people can listen to it at anytime even offline and this feature will also appeal to their target audience-(mainly the younger end to their target audience - 15 - 20)

The Live song on live lounge by Harry Styles attracted their target audience  and possibly lower because Harry is a big name in the music industry and he is very popular amongst the younger girls.

exam dirt

  • question 1

the use of background sound, for example the chatter of other diners and digetic  music in the background of the scene in the dining room connotes the calm, relaxing and normality of the storm 0

question 2

CAMERA WORK also depicts the police’s POV as the police are shown mostly in close-up, extreme close ups and medium close ups – often shot at low angle – this shows the action from their POV as you see their emotion/see them as people and, because of the low camera angles, you naturally view them as having a higher status. BY CONTRAST the criminals are shown mostly in long shots, medium long – often from a high angle and sometimes as CCTV footage connoting that they are the social problem for the police to solve rather than the characters you should see the point of view of.
SOUND: the sound depicts the narrative from the POV of the police because the majority of diegetic dialogue that progresses the narrative is given to the police, making them seem human and likeable with lines like,”________” and “______” showing the stress of their job and their personality. By contrast, the criminals just have threatening diegetic dialogue like, “________.” Furthermore, non-diegetic music is used differently for the police and criminals – for the police it is upbeat and exciting connoting they are the heroes while for the criminals it is foreboding and tense connoting they are the stereotypical villains (Propps).

news what is the purpose of news

what is the purpose of news

  • inform
  • educate
  • entertain
  • profit
  • influence

useful facts

  • newspapers are not PSB (like the BBC) they are commercial publications. Over three quarters (77.8%) of the brattish press is owned by a handful of billionaires. Over a quarter (27.3 per cent) of the press is owned by lord Rothermore and 24.9 per cent by Rupert Murdoch - between them these two men have over 50 per cent of the printed press
  • newspapers and their online publications (example of synergy and convergence) are not legally obliged to provide a un-biased public information service. there are ethical and moral codes of conduct but the printed press is self regulatory industry.

The History of news

news is no longer a spectator sport because of the internet. you can now be a passive spectator, creating your own news and sharing media
I would say news is better now because of the ways you can view it. for example, you can now view news on virtually anything, ranging from a phone, tablet, computer possibly even a smart fridge. although you could argue that news was better back then because there was not a thing called 'fake news' so anything you seen you believe.
